Big Gay Apple's 'Big Whoop' Party

with porn star D-Lister Kyle Douglas

"The Big Whoop Interview with Kyle Douglas"

by John Russell

Kyle Douglas looks nervous.

“Feel my heart beat.” I put my hand on his chest and, yes, his heart is thumping right along. He knocks back a Malibu and pineapple juice, but he still seems jittery. Why the hell is Kyle Douglas so nervous?

“I’ve never been to one of these before,” says the 28-year-old self described D-list porn star. “I don’t really know what to expect.”

To hear him talk you’d think he was about to perform on stage at Carnegie Hall. But it’s just Big Whoop, Big Gay Apple’s monthly porno party at Pieces. The drinks are cheap, the crowd is friendly, and everyone’s pretty much a drunken mess – particularly the Big Gay Apple crew. So Kyle really doesn’t have anything to worry about. Anyway, he’s the man of the hour, the special guest, the porn star du jour. Not bad for a D-lister.

That’s right, just like Hollywood, porn has its own internal hierarchy. This is how Kyle breaks it down:

“There are stars who find themselves in every other video being released, for one reason or another. There are porn stars who may not be in very many videos, but have a relatively huge following. There are guys who aren't very commanding on-film, who fill the screen with nothing more than a slightly-lukewarm body. And, of course, there are guys who shouldn’t even be in porn. I consider the first group as porn's A-list. They're in every video release, are up for all the awards. They’re in the news, and on the tip of everyone's tongue.”

Ok, so where does Kyle Douglas fit into that hierarchy?

“Most people you ask would consider me to be in the second group,” he says. “I.E. not in a lot of videos, but with a decent-sized and loyal fan-base and hardly D-list material. But like Kathy Griffin, I use the “D-list” moniker as a tongue-in-cheek method of pointing out my departure from what’s popular right at this moment.”

But if Kyle’s on the D-list, who’s on the A-list?

“These days, in my humble opinion,” says Kyle, “porn’s A-List includes such names as Erik Rhodes, Manuel Torres, Arpad Miklos, Tag Adams, Pete Ross, Jason Adonis, Collin O’Neal, Francois Sagat…the list goes on and on.”

Of course, Kyle has a soft spot for some of porn’s old guard. “In my heart, porn’s A-list will always include recently-retired wet-dreams Colton Ford, Gus Mattox, and Blake Harper.”

Life on porn’s D-list isn’t all that bad. According to Kyle there’s some award buzz regarding his scene in Galaxy Pictures’ Standing Firm with Scott Spears. He’s the secretary of the New York City Gay Pool League. And he’s also writing and starring in Galaxy’s Back Door Advances, due out in the spring

“I plan on including scenarios based on my own unusual sexual exploits,” says Kyle, “as well as some of my fantasies of sexual exploits that have yet to happen. I find it fascinating how guys sometimes meet each other – whether explicitly for sex or not – and how the sparks can fly and animalistic sex can ensue. Those are the types of things I’ll be looking to include in Back Door Advances.”

At 2 a.m., after the cocktails and the interviews and the autographs, Pieces is winding down. The Big Gay Apple boys are packing up another Big Whoop, the crowd is thinning, but near the pool table, Kyle Douglas is still kicking ass. He handles his cue as deftly as he handles cock in his videos. He doesn’t look nervous anymore
